2027 Grammy Voting: What Nigerian Music Fans Should Know Before Nominations

The first voting round for the 2027 Grammy Awards is under way, but the official nominations have not been announced. For Nigerian music fans following their favourite artists, that distinction matters: an entry submitted for consideration is not yet a Grammy nomination, and neither stage guarantees an eventual win.

Recent reporting by TheCable about Davido’s entries is one reason the difference is worth explaining. Submission reports describe an early part of the awards process. They should not be read as an official announcement that an artist has secured those nominations.

What happens after an entry is submitted?

The Recording Academy’s awards-process guide explains that entries are checked for eligibility before moving onto the ballot. Submission, screening and nomination are separate steps. Getting a recording into the process gives it an opportunity to be considered; it does not settle how members will vote.

That is why the language around an artist’s campaign is important. A list of submitted songs or categories can describe what has been put forward, without describing what will appear on the eventual nominations list. Fans should look for the Academy’s published list before calling a particular entry a 2027 nominee.

The dates to keep in mind

According to the official first-round voting guide, this ballot runs from 12 to 22 October 2026. The nominees are scheduled to be announced on 16 November 2026. A separate final voting round runs from 10 December 2026 to 7 January 2027 and determines the winners.

The ceremony itself is scheduled for 7 February 2027. These dates describe different milestones, not interchangeable deadlines. As of 14 October 2026, the first round is in progress; the nominations announcement and the final ballot are still ahead.

Can fans vote for their favourite artist?

The Academy’s submission and voting explainer says only Recording Academy Voting Members can cast Grammy ballots. Registering a media company or holding another type of Academy membership does not automatically provide voting rights. Public enthusiasm should therefore not be confused with a public fan-voting contest.

For anyone following Nigerian artists through awards season, the clearest approach is to separate reported entries, officially announced nominations and the final results. Each is a different development. Checking which stage a headline refers to makes it easier to celebrate genuine progress without announcing an outcome before it exists.
