Temiloluwa Bamgbose, serving as the online editor for BusinessDay, has officially been shortlisted among six competing journalists for the inaugural Reporter Slam Nigeria. This competition provides a vital stage for journalists to articulate the personal experiences and challenges inherent in their published work. The winner, designated as the Slampion, will travel to represent Nigeria at the regional Reporter Slam competition organized by KAS. Melony Ishola, who serves as the convener of the initiative, highlighted that this platform is essential for giving voice to stories that are frequently under-told within Nigerian media outlets. [1]

Organizer Vision

Melony Ishola, a broadcaster and multimedia journalist with head of programmes responsibilities at PUNCH Videos, explained the strategic purpose behind launching Reporter Slam Nigeria. She stated that the initiative was created specifically to address the under-told nature of individual journalists in the Nigerian media sector. Her experience as the winner of the inaugural Reporter Slam Africa in 2024 led her to participate in the global competition held in Berlin during January 2025, reinforcing the program's international reach and professional development goals. Program Structure

The organizers plan to establish a network of Reporter Slam alumni to support future participants and maintain momentum. This structure aims to connect Nigerian journalists with the wider global Reporter Slam community while fostering opportunities for international participation, professional development, and collaborative projects. The long-term vision includes building a robust ecosystem where established alumni can mentor emerging talent and create pathways for sustained collaboration across borders. [1]

Competition Details

The competition operates as a platform where journalists submit personal narratives to be evaluated by peers and experts. The selection process involves a rigorous review of submissions, with the final winner being chosen through a competitive process among the six finalists. This format ensures that the spotlight remains on the individual contributors rather than solely on institutional achievements or corporate narratives. [1]

Next Steps

Following the announcement of Bamgbose's shortlisting, the organizers are preparing for the upcoming regional event scheduled in Nigeria. The specific date for the inaugural Reporter Slam Nigeria remains to be confirmed by the KAS organization. Until then, the focus remains on the preparation of all six finalists and the successful execution of the competition's objectives. [1]
