Wayve Microfinance Bank disclosed that no investors subscribed for shares in the ongoing Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals initial public offering through its WayvePay digital banking platform. The bank stated this outcome occurred after the Securities and Exchange Commission issued a warning to the public regarding investment activities on the site. [1]

Following the SEC's intervention, the operator of the WayvePay platform removed all associated promotional materials and deleted the specific link from its mobile application. The bank noted that the arrangement previously linked the digital platform to Coronation Securities to facilitate transactions. [1]

The SEC directed customers to refrain from investing through the WayvePay trading platform, citing that the platform is not registered to solicit public investment or operate in any capacity within the Nigerian capital market. Consequently, the bank withdrew its promotional content immediately after receiving this regulatory direction. [1]

While WayvePay saw no activity, the scale of the proposed transaction does not guarantee widespread participation across all potential markets. The planned IPO aims to attract capital from African investors and broaden ownership beyond existing shareholders at a business valuation expected to reach $50 billion. [2]

Botswana has been selected to host the Southern African component of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery IPO, a move intended to widen regional investor participation. The refinery's promoters are extending the overall IPO timeline by two weeks to establish structures allowing investors across different African markets to participate. [2]

Hosting the Southern African component in Botswana seeks to make the refinery's shares more accessible to regional investors while raising the profile of its domestic stock market. The success of this initiative will depend on final terms, cross-market arrangements, and investor appetite at the proposed valuation. [2]
