Ejiro Amos Tafiri’s next programme is not limited to sending a new collection down a runway. The Nigerian designer has outlined a sequence of events linking professional discussion in Lagos with a collection presentation and a later showcase in Abuja.
According to THISDAY’s announcement of the programme, the opening event is a conference at the British Council in Lagos on October 24. Its theme centres on fashioning a legacy and leaving a mark over time, with emerging designers, students and industry participants among the intended audience.

A private, off-schedule presentation of the brand’s spring/summer 2027 collection is planned for October 25 in Lagos. An invitation-only Abuja showcase follows on November 15. These are separate events with different access arrangements; a public conference announcement should not be read as an open invitation to every presentation in the series.
Why the conference belongs in the story
Fashion coverage naturally gravitates towards finished clothes. A striking silhouette travels more easily on a phone screen than a conversation about business continuity. Yet continuity is exactly what makes a designer’s work more than a memorable season. The label needs systems around the creativity if customers are to receive consistent quality and the team is to keep producing.
For an emerging Nigerian designer, that can mean deciding how to price a labour-intensive piece, when to take a deposit, or how many orders a small team can realistically fulfil. A beautiful sample can attract attention while an unclear delivery process damages the relationship with the very customers the collection has won.
These are not separate from the artistic identity of a brand. Fabric choice affects both the final appearance and the production timetable. A signature technique can create distinction, but it also needs skilled hands and a realistic plan for repeat orders. The strongest fashion businesses understand the connection rather than treating administration as an inconvenience after the creative work.
A collection season with different audiences
The Lagos and Abuja stops also underline that a runway audience is not necessarily the same as a customer audience. Editors may be looking for a clear design direction. Buyers need information about availability and delivery. A private client may want to know how a piece can work within an existing wardrobe. The presentation must leave room for those different questions.
For people planning to attend the conference, the useful preparation is to arrive with a specific problem to explore. A question about managing a first small production run is more productive than asking generally how to become successful. Students can also use the event to understand the roles beyond the designer: pattern cutting, styling, communications and production all contribute to the final result.
The programme gives Tafiri an opportunity to place the conversation around the clothes alongside the clothes themselves. Whether someone follows the collection images or attends an industry discussion, the broader point is the same: a fashion legacy is built through repeated decisions, relationships and reliable work, not simply a single well-received show. Attendees should confirm access arrangements directly with the organiser before making travel plans.
