ABUJA, October 15, 2026 — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition political figures to acknowledge what he described as the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, stressing that political differences should not prevent a fair assessment of government policies and performance.

Wike made the remarks during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, where he addressed party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Wike described himself as a leader of the PDP while explaining his decision to support President Tinubu. He maintained that belonging to a different political party should not stop politicians from recognising decisions and policies they believe are beneficial to the country.

The former Rivers State Governor also disagreed with opposition claims that the administration lacks direction, arguing that Tinubu has shown a willingness to tackle difficult national challenges that previous governments had acknowledged but failed to adequately address.

On national security, Wike expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to tackle insecurity. He also highlighted the proposed establishment of state police as a reform he believes could improve security management across the country. The issue of state policing remains a subject of national debate, particularly concerning constitutional safeguards, funding, accountability and the relationship between federal and state authorities.

The FCT Minister further urged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to prove their political influence through tangible results in their respective areas of responsibility, rather than relying merely on their appointments or positions.

In a review of the proceedings prepared by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Wike’s remarks were highlighted as one of the notable moments of the inauguration.

His comments came during an event that brought together political figures from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

For the FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team, the inauguration provided an opportunity to document the views expressed by political stakeholders on governance, public accountability, security reforms and the relationship between political competition and national development.

The Forum maintains that discussions about government performance should be guided by verifiable policies, measurable results and the real-life experiences of Nigerians across various sectors.
