Yam and egg sauce may sound like an approachable assignment—until a clock is running and someone else is judging the plate. Cooking with GameChangers used that familiar combination during the promotional cook-offs for its second season, giving business and media figures a task audiences could understand without a culinary glossary.
The week culminated on 23 October 2026 with a different challenge: Daniel Etim Effiong and M.I Abaga prepared spaghetti for Seyi Banigbe to judge. Effiong won that promotional contest, according to the organisers’ recap published by BellaNaija. The result belongs to that cook-off, rather than establishing the winner of the television season.
The show combines a look at participants’ working lives with competition in the kitchen. Its premise gives the food a second job: it becomes a way of seeing familiar public personalities deal with a task outside their usual setting.

A dish that lets the audience join the argument
There is a particular entertainment advantage in using a recognisable meal. Viewers can have an opinion about the result before a judge speaks. They may prefer a softer yam, a more assertive pepper sauce or a different balance between the components. Familiarity creates an immediate point of entry.
Yam also carries more weight in this setting than a randomly chosen ingredient. The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture’s overview of the crop identifies white Guinea yam as indigenous to West Africa and describes several ways the tuber is prepared, including boiling, roasting and frying. It belongs to a wide repertoire rather than one standard plate.
In a March 2026 report on a Nigerian yam summit, IITA also connected the crop’s cultural importance with questions about seed systems, production and markets. A television cook-off is a very different setting, but the familiar ingredient links the spectacle back to a food with a substantial life beyond the studio.
That is one reason a simple challenge can be more revealing than an elaborate one. With fewer components, the audience can follow the decisions: how the contestant uses the available time, what they prioritise and how they explain the final plate. The meal provides a common reference point while leaving room for personal interpretation.
The useful comedy is in the change of roles
Cooking competitions place people in a visible sequence of decisions. A contestant can begin with a confident plan and then discover that one task needs attention while another is unfinished. For a public figure usually encountered in a controlled professional role, that change of setting is the central attraction of the format.
It does not prove that kitchen performance measures executive ability. The more interesting entertainment proposition is smaller: viewers get to encounter a familiar person concentrating, improvising and explaining a choice. A humorous mistake can make a participant approachable without becoming a serious verdict on their career.
The launch photographs underline the crossover between food and personality. Aprons, branded kitchen stations and the presence of entertainment figures present the competition as a shared social occasion. They establish the promotional setting, but they cannot tell a reader how any dish tasted or how the edited season will handle its contestants.

What to look for when the cooking starts
A satisfying episode gives the viewer enough information to understand the judging. What was the assignment? Did every participant have the same time and ingredients? Is the judge discussing flavour, texture, presentation or fidelity to the brief? Clear explanations let disagreement become part of the pleasure of watching.
There is room for personal taste without treating every judgment as arbitrary. A judge can prefer a particular style and still explain what works within another approach. For viewers, listening for that distinction can be more rewarding than choosing a favourite contestant before the cooking begins.
The business element also has a chance to add substance if the programme connects a participant’s day-to-day work with a specific story. A concrete account of a difficult decision or an unexpected career turn gives the kitchen conversation something to build on. General statements about success are less revealing than the details of how someone reached a decision.
Where the announced season can be found
The launch announcement directs viewers to the B2G Network YouTube channel. It also advertises television slots including Saturdays at 9am on NTA Network and Sundays at 4.30pm on Africa Magic Family; viewers should consult the relevant channel guide for the current listing.
For now, the season’s invitation is straightforward: familiar personalities, a competitive kitchen and meals that give audiences something of their own to bring to the conversation. The fun will be in the decisions made between receiving the brief and putting the plate in front of the judge.
